The URS Mentorship Program connects undergraduate students with mentors who can help guide them through research, academic planning, professional development, and involvement in URS.
How can I get involved with the URS Mentorship Program?
You can fill out our Mentor or Mentee forms to be considered for either and join the program.
How much time do participants commit to the URS Mentorship Program?
Mentors and Mentees are required to attend biweekly sixty-minute meetings.
What are the criteria for mentor-mentee matching?
Participants will be matched based on research interests, future goals, communication style, and availability. The number of mentees we can accept also depends on the number of mentors available.
How are mentors and mentees matched?
Mentors and mentees are matched based on factors such as academic interests, career goals, and areas where the mentee is looking for guidance.
What can mentees expect from their mentor?
Mentees can expect support, guidance, and advice from their mentor as they navigate academics, research opportunities, professional development, and their future goals.
What if my mentor can't answer my questions?
Mentors will draw on their experience as well as consulting the resources we share with our team. If you feel your mentor was not able to meet your needs, you may provide feedback via the post-meeting reflection forms.
Do I need previous research experience to become a mentee?
No. Students at any level of research experience are encouraged to participate, including those who are just beginning to explore research.
Can my mentor help me find a research position?
Mentors can provide advice on finding and applying for research opportunities, but participation in the program does not guarantee a research position.
Who should I contact if I have issues with my match or schedule?
You can reach out directly to the URS Mentorship team or contact Ritika or Ana for support and guidance.
What happens if I need to miss a meeting?
Participants should notify their mentor or mentee in advance so they can reschedule. Communication is key to a successful mentorship experience.
